I'd like to officially cm=>@,karaoke format NOT GOOD     NO NO NO NO NO!!ClintJCL216.200.103.195Knto 5 bytes?  It's still going to take up at least 4,096 bytes of my harddrive space due to the clustering.

These songs should be stored in a more open format.  Some sort of XML convention.  As long as the karaoke files are proprietary, why should anyone outside of the EvilLyrics universe ever contribute?  If it becomes an open standard, and many others support it, other neat programs may pop up and somehow make use of these files.  And finally, they would be hand-editable, so that we could fix that one annoying mistake without having to re-code the entire song.

Please reconsider the way these are done.  Right now I am wondering if I wasted my time making karaoke files because the format has changed multiple times since I last downloaded EvilLyrics.  This is fruitless and should be remedied immediately.

Let's not do this the Microsoft way, let's do it the Linux way.
(Okay, I just through that in for the Slashdot readers.) Smiley

karaoke file is not packed into 5 bytes. When talking about 5 bytes, we are talking about KARAOKE INDEX - file which stores IDs of karaoke files (so you don't have to visit the site for every song just to find out karaoke is not available - using karaoke index you are now alerted if there is karaoke file)

well, i don't think it will ever become standard, because most of the other softwares just don't bother and store timestamps together with lyrics .. which is much easier to display ... much easier to edit ... etc etc ... but as lyrics are copyrighted material it is just illegal. As you might noticed, Evil Laboratories provide no lyrics on their site, they just give you tool to search for lyrics on other sites (it's their problem if thay display them illegally)

So that way we had to separate timestamps from lyrics which is not easy to do because you have different versions of lyrics and they not always match with timestamps. But it works in 95% fo the cases which i think is enough.

And as to editing, you can now edit the timestamp with latest version of ello - lyrics organizer

Karaoke format haven't been changed since it's first official release and there are no plans to change it. Only karaoke index functionality has been changed (version using it was not officially released)
