the tutorial here

http://www.evillabs.sk/evillyrics/faq/faq1.php?faqnr=72

doesn't seem to work. nothing is outputted to the file, and when I try to access 'postlyrics.php' I get a php error on line 5, whether it is commented or not.

any ideas?

Hi,

Please take a look here: http://www.evillabs.sk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=969 (http://www.evillabs.sk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=969). AVB100 is working on a nice version for this feature..

I experienced the same poý+ Û…¶ïA¯Post To WebpageAVB100AVB100@Hotmail.com140.211.121.227Ágot carried away.

The problem is that '\' will escape the closing quote.

The corrected version would be:
Code:
$out = str_replace('\\','',$text); //we remove backslashes from lyrics

But, then again, there's a nifty little function that's been around since PHP 3 (even earlier than str_replace, introduced in 3.0.6) that will have the desired effect
Code:
$out = stripslashes($text);

Oh, and writing to blog/lyrics.php may not work (if the directory doesn't exist), so you may need to consider that...
Code:
if ( !is_dir('blog') ) { mkdir('blog'); }
or
$fp = fopen('lyrics.php', 'w'); //path to lyrics.php file with writing permission

But I digress.  I've been working on a new version of my scripts (completely re-coded), so the old version has essentially been end-of-lifed, but I would still be happy to send it to you (upon request).  I can't really say when the new version will be available, but it shouldn't be more than a few weeks.

I've created a sourceforge project for my plug-in...because I can.

Project information can be found at:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/evilposter/

Or directly download version 1.00 from:

You found probably the # ýJ Û‰øA¯Post To WebpageAVB100AVB100@Hotmail.com140.211.121.227Áan my design.  I assume the customizations you made were cosmetic.

I noticed you commented out the admin form...could you let me know why?  (I expect, because it looked shitty and it doesn't do anything too important yet)  Any ideas on how those features could be integrated without being such an eyesore?  I suppose I could put a subtle link to a login page, or I could develop some sort of login where it would just add options for the admin to the index page.  I don't know.

One other thing I've been thinking about, is changing the way past lyrics are listed.  Currently, it shows now playing, past hour, and past 24 hours.  I don't know if it would be better to go by the last # songs played, or some other method.

Anyways, is there any features that you'd like to see?
(Multiple layout options, friendlier setup process, etc.)

Run into any problems with the installation?
(Instructions hard to follow, missing steps, etc.)

Well, I've said more than enough.  Any feedback you can give me would be great, and thanks for downloading.

I'm trying to make it soiýK Û/„øAÜPost To WebpageJayphenjayphen@gmail.com 203.45.76.23;zes large images down to 300. I thought I had it right, but it didn't work. my first php script ever.. a failure! any ideas?

I took out the admin form because it's no use to anyone but me. it's okay for me to see it, but not anyone else. it looks .. hmm I can't think of the word. hopefully understand despite how vague I am being.

I would prefer to be able to access the admin page directly via /admin.php.

about the way past lyrics are listed, you could perhaps have in the admin.php a few different options. they could include the way it is now, or a specified # of last songs played.

you could also have 2 archive links, one with a list of lyrics by artist (under A, B, C etc) which could also be sorted by album or song title .. and another archive with all songs listened to in the past week, with links to other weeks or months or whatever.

no problems at all with the installation, it was simple as they come.

Well, the first problem sýL ÛÔ–øA¯Post To WebpageAVB100AVB100@Hotmail.com140.211.121.227e have two values and the code isn't likely to be used again on the same page, it is easiest to just program this inline.

This option will be added in the next version.

The following code (which will be implemented in some form in the next version) should be placed somewhere in front of the code that actually outputs the image...
Code:
$imagesize = getimagesize($saved_album_art_url);
if ( $imagesize )
  {
    $maxsize = 300;
    if ($imagesize[0] > $maxsize) {$imagesize[0] = $maxsize;}
    if ($imagesize[1] > $maxsize) {$imagesize[1] = $maxsize;}
  }

Then, the image can be displayed with the following...
Code:
<IMG SRC="'.$saved_album_art_url.'" WIDTH="'.$imagesize[0].'" HEIGHT="'.$imagesize[1].'" ALT="'.$saved_album_name.'">

To patch your code, I would do the following:
Code:
<? function imageResize($saved_album_art_url,$dimension) {

$albumimage = getimagesize($saved_album_art_url);

$width = $albumimage[0];
$height = $albumimage[1];
  if ( $albumimage && ($width>300 || $height>300) ) {
  $width = "300";
  $height = "300";
  }

  if ($dimension=='width') {
  return $width;
  }

  if ($dimension=='height') {
  return $height;
  }

} ?>
and
Code:
<? if ( isset($saved_album_art_url) ){
echo '<A HREF="'.$saved_amazon_url.'" target="_new">
<IMG border="0" width="'.imageResize($saved_album_art_url,'width').'" height="'.imageResize($saved_album_art_url,'height').'"SRC="'.$saved_album_art_url.'" ALT="'.$saved_album_name.'">
</A><br><br>';
} ?>

I find it slightly more cumbersome to use a function in this case...

Some notes on your PHP...

The parameters of a function is for data being passed to a function
Code:
function myFunctionName($parameter, $parameter2)
  {
    $parameter; // 'Anything'
    $parameter2; // 'Something else'
  }

myFunctionName('Anything','Something else');

Variables defined within a function have a limited scope (they are only available within the function itself)  If you try to access those variables from outside the function, they will not be found

Once the script has been told to process as php, using the '<?' or '<?php' tag, it is not necessary to do it again unless it has been closed '?>'

If you're using a limited php segment to output a variable, you need to use an echo, or another print command e.g. <? echo $var; ?>

Anyways, hope this helps.  Happy coding.

Released version 1.01
http://sourceforge.net/projects/evilposter/

Now, admin stuff is hidden unless you access '/index.php?admin' or login at '/admin.php' directly.  Also, your time zone and the maximum album art image dimensions (width/height) can be adjusted from the admin panel.

I created most of the browse/search system, but I still have to refine the search method.  Right now, the search just uses a literal (case sensitive) search for the query string in the artist and song title.

The prototype can be viewed here:
http://s94037941.onlinehome.us/search.php

thanks for the php lesson hehe, I eventually got it working :)

I think I might use winmerge to update, I don't want to lose my customisations.

are you going to look into archiving?

I'm trying to think of the best way to allow people like you to customize the pages, and not have to manually update every version...it's an interesting problem.  I've switched most everything to CSS (with a source file), but that still only allows a certain amount of control.

For pages that are different beyond css styles (as yours is), they'd have to be updated individually for every page, unless I seperated all the different processing parts to seperate scripts called by an iframe or include.  I'll have to give this some thought.

For now, I'd reccomend you keep your current version until there's a major update, and some of this gets sorted out.

Another release...
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/evilposter/EvilPoster_1.02.zip?download

Changes in 1.02:
  New features
  - Implemented a basic search system
  - Creation of new layouts supported
  - CSS stylesheets can now be created to customize page
  Changes
  - Split control of file management and preferences to two pages
  - Several bugs fixed

With this version, if you upload your current index.php to the /layouts folder you should be able to switch to that format from the admin page.  If the default stylesheets override your formatting, switch the style to Custom, but know that the other pages will lose all their formatting.

okay, downloaded.. it looks good, except 'played in the last hour' doesn't seem to work.

two things, would it possible to make the search function not case sensitive? and also, is there any way you can display the current playing song (and something like, "no lyrics found"), even if evillyrics doesn't find any lyrics?

Title: Post To Webpage
Post by: AVB100 on February 01, 2005, 05:30:28 AM
I noticed that the past hour didn't work about 30 minutes after I uploaded the new version.  It's been fixed.  Also, in previous versions it had been displaying one more song than it should have in the past hour, and skipping one song between the past hour and past 24 hours.  This has also been fixed.

The current search function is just a sort of beta version, it will be much more powerful in future versions.  Right now it's case-sensitive because it's just doing a very basic comparison to filenames.  I won't get into it, but basically, I have to make sure that the search method isn't too processing-intensive, or searches will be quite slow, especially for people like me with 1200+ songs archived.

Oh, and I'll add a message for when lyrics aren't found.  Be aware that there is a bug in EvilLyrics, too, if the titles aren't showing up at all, either.

yes .. i checked sending and the problem was that it didn't encode characters while sending them, so when it contained some weird charactes it didn't post it ... it was fixed now, fix will be included in the next build. thanks for reporting.

I found that there is a limit when posting lyrics using current method (url) of about 2000 bytes, so longer lyrics probably don't get posted. This will be fixed. But could this be the main reason? Are the lyrics that didn't get posted longer than average in general?

Oh...that.  When EvilLyrics doesn't find lyrics, I don't think it triggers a post, otherwise it would show up.  There's nothing I can do to show songs that don't get passed to the script.  This would be more on Marek's end.

Version 1.03
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/evilposter/EvilPoster_1.03.zip?download

Yeah, it seems like it is the longer files that don't get posted.  I discovered that the limit on my server allows about 8000 characters for lyrics in a GET request.  After a few conversions, I've found that several lyrics might be quite close to this limit.  Is it possible to use POST or some other method to pass the lyrics?

Title: Post To Webpage
Post by: Marek on February 02, 2005, 12:57:53 PM
i'm not sure but i think lyrics only get posted when they matched some of our site filters (that way we can be 90% sure that what got downloaded are lyrics). otherwise nothing is posted ... so what's your suggestion? to post only song name and empty string for lyrics? maybe ... it always have to be processed by server so then user will be able to decide what to do when he gets empty lyrics .. whether to ignore it or show only song name without lyrics ...

hey, EvilPoster is quite impressive. Just installed it. Only problem I encountered was problem with writing permissions. It wasn't mentioned in readme.txt and it wasn't able neither to rename readme.txt nor creating directories etc. Maybe it should be mentioned in readme.

And as to security, i'm not very familiar with it .. is it ok to enable writing permissions?

And i was able to style it as i wanted, great .. but somwhow i wasn't able to change these items .. any ideas how to do it?
"Now playing:" on the top
"x songs have been archived"
and stearch form ... i mean textbox and submit button

otherwise nice job .. i will add it to addons section and faq

and in future releases, would you please change the link to evillyrics site to "http://www.evillabs.sk/evillyrics" (instead of index.php) ... thanks

I would suggest that it ALWAYS post what is being played, that way the decisions can be made by the end user.  Basically, my philosophy is options.    If you can pass some variable to denote whether/which filter was used along with whatever lyrics it may have, all the better.

Alternatively, if you wanted to provide such options through EvilLyrics, the effect would be the same.  It's just a matter of where the decision is made and which one of us programs the option.  Oh, and I've updated the link to EvilLyrics.

Jayphen was a bit off on the components

The "Now playing" heading is provided by the following line in /components/header.php
Code:
<? echo $page ?>

Be aware that the variable $page is passed to the script by earlier statements in /index.php  It makes a determination as to whether it is displaying current or past lyrics.  Then the actual lines that set the value are:
Code:
$page = 'Now Playing';
or
$page = 'Previously Played';

I wouldn't reccomend changing these values, as they are hard coded into the program, and may cause things to operate erratically, or not work at all

Anyways, the "__ songs have been archived" is from the following line (near the end) in /components/recentlyrics.php
Code:
echo "\n\n".count($fileList).' songs have been archived.';

And the search form is indeed in /components/searchform.php

Write permissions are exactly as safe as the scripts that use them.  I'm hardly an expert on security, so I can't make any guarantees that my script is not vulnerable, but I believe it to be secure.  If I hear about potential security holes, I'll update my script, and I'll continue to try to make it as safe as I know how.  Essentially, enabling write permissions is safe, as long as the scripts you run don't do anything devious with those permissions, or have security holes.

yep, that's what i meant, there is no class applied on them so they can't be modified via css. everyting else can. if would be great if user could customize it without knowing php ...

btw, new development version is out, it should fix posting of long lyrics (not it uses POST request instead of GET) and also some additional parameters have been added to the request (url and filered parameters) .... check it out in development section ...

I just noticed somethingbýx ÛÅóB¯Post To WebpageAVB100AVB100@Hotmail.com 24.20.131.3
lyrics part seems be missing, but it works with the manual post.  For example, when playing "The Strokes - 1251" the following data was passed:
Code:
   [HTTP_POST_VARS] => Array
        (
            [password] => *Password hash*
            [identifier] => The Strokes - 1251
            [lyrics] => <br><br><a href=\"http://www.evillabs.sk/evillyrics\">Get EvilLyrics!</a>
            [url] => http://top40-charts.com/songs/lyrics.php?sid=8114&onlylyrics=1
            [filtered] => 0
        )

If I press the post button, I get the full lyrics:
Code:
   [HTTP_POST_VARS] => Array
        (
            [password] => *Password hash*
            [identifier] => The Strokes - 1251
            [lyrics] => <br><br>Talk to me now I\'m older<br>Your friends all do cuz I told her<br>Friday nights have been lonely<br>Change your plans and then phone me<br><br>We can go and get 40\'s<br>Fuck goin to that party<br>Oh really, your folks are away now?<br>Alright, lets go you convinced me.<br><br>12:51 is the time my voice<br>found the words I sought<br>Is it the stage I want?<br>Could the world be shutting out for us?<br>We were tense for sure, but we was confident<br><br>Kiss me now that Im older<br>I wont try to control ya<br>Friday nights have been lonely<br>Take it slow but dont warn me<br><br>We\'d go out and get 40\'s<br>Then we\'d go to some party<br>Oh really, your folks are away now?<br>Alright, I\'m comin<br>I\'ll be right there.<br><br><a href=\"http://www.evillabs.sk/evillyrics\">Get EvilLyrics!</a>
            [url] => http://top40-charts.com/songs/lyrics.php?sid=8114&onlylyrics=1
            [filtered] => 0
        )

Seeing as my script updates any existing files with the newest lyrics, it's a fairly significant problem.  In testing, 40 out of 230 lyrics posted incorrectly.

Anyways, thanks for the release, Marek.  Can't wait to get back and really catch up with the new features.

just one thing though, if I make it so that evillyrics does not post unfiltered lyrics, I want evilposter to still post the title and artist of the now playing track (if there are lyrics found, but are unfiltered)

this is so if I'm listening to dance music for example, and evillyrics finds something like this

.. I still want evilposter to post the song I'm listening to, but I don't want that stuff above to be posted.

I'll just have to to add a 3rd option to each of the "Process unfiltered lyrics"   and "Process without lyrics" settings, to just post the title.  It will be in the next release.

It looks like Amazon changed the the way to retrieve album information again.

You can temporary hide this error until avb100 fix it, removing the lines:
Code:
include('components/albumart.php');

from layouts/default.php (or in your case layouts/Centered Art(By Jayphen).php)

and
Code:
<? if ( !empty($saved_album_name) ) {echo '<br>From the album: '.$saved_album_name;} ?>

at line 7 from components/nowplaying.php

when clicking a song in search results, it just goes back to now playing, instead of the lyrics for that song.

I haven't noticed this, but theoretically it would be because the link is to a file that no longer exists...can you give me an example?

OK, fixed that...it was using the location of the file instead of just the base filename.  It should have been something like:
/index.php?identifier=rise%20against%20-%20rumors%20of%20my%20demise%20have%20been%20greatly%20exaggerated

This will be fixed in the next release

Sorry about the delay, I've been getting busy with school.  I've released Version 1.06

I've been trying to think of ways to really take EvilPoster to the next level, I've had a couple ideas that could be implemented.

The first is some sort of community-type interaction.  For example, I add someone to my "friends list", so people can jump to my friends page, or I could add some features to generate statistics that compare their libraries (how many songs in common, artists in common, albums in common, etc.)

Another idea is to integrate some journaling features.  Some sort of simple blog or something, anything to keep people off livejournals, xangas, etc.

Anyways, just a couple ideas.  Let me know what you think

just found this,
can i just double check what you do?

upload the eilposter,
save the nowplayng.txt
ftp the .txt to your eil poster folder?

is that right?
